More Information

My Chorale for Brass Quintet was written in a single day near the end of the summer of 2007. In this, my first attempt at writing for brass, I strove to create a chorale texture much like the famous chorales of J.S. Bach. The primary melody is in the soprano voice, but interesting and unexpected harmonies and inner voices emerge at times disrupting the otherwise homophonic texture. Each time the main theme returns it is accompanied by new harmonies.

Premiered May 4, 2008 by Mark Maliniak and David Perkins-trumpets, Emily Applegarth-horn, Jake Mercer-trombone, and Eli Terwilliger-tuba, at Baldwin Wallace University, Berea, OH.
